Terms of Use
By downloading, installing, or using the Software, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Software.
1. What Portable Player is
Portable Player is free, self-hosted software that organizes and plays media files you already have on your own computer or server. It is software you run yourself. We do not host your media, stream content to you, or operate any central service that stores your library, your viewing activity, or your ratings. Everything stays on the device you run it on.
2. Your media is your responsibility
You are solely responsible for the files you add to the Software. You must own, or otherwise have the legal right to use, any content you store, organize, or play with the Software. Do not use the Software to copy, distribute, or access content in violation of copyright or any other law. We have no access to and no control over the files you process, and we are not responsible for how you use the Software.
3. Acceptable use
- Don't use the Software or this website to break the law or infringe anyone's rights.
- Don't attempt to disrupt, attack, or gain unauthorized access to any system.
- Don't remove or alter the Software's notices, or pass it off as your own.
4. Privacy
The Software is self-hosted and does not send your library, files, viewing history, or ratings to us or to any third party. Optional features you choose to enable (for example, fetching poster art and metadata) contact third-party services directly from your own machine, under those services' terms. This website does not use advertising or third-party tracking and does not require an account.
5. Third-party content and metadata
Artwork, descriptions, and other metadata may be retrieved from third-party providers (such as TMDB) when you supply the relevant API key. That content belongs to its respective owners and is subject to the provider's terms. Portable Player is not endorsed by or affiliated with those providers.
6. No warranty
The Software and this website are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement, to the fullest extent permitted by law. You use the Software at your own risk.
7. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of data, arising out of or related to your use of (or inability to use) the Software or this website.
8. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date above. Continuing to use the Software after a change takes effect means you accept the updated Terms.
9. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws applicable where the operator of the Software is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules.
